Virgin Money

Virgin Money will be another company that is to move into the climate change sector.

The funds advisor GLG will only invest in companies with a light environmental footprint or manufacture or own solutions to environmental problems and they will select suitable stocks for investment.

The climate change leaders fund is Virgin Money’s first new fund in twelve years. People will be able to invest in companies who reduce their environmental footprint without losing performance.

GLG say they are thrilled at joining Virgin Money in offering investors access to actively managed funds.

Mutual societies 'outperforming PLCs'

Mutual societies are often outperforming larger and more well-known life offices in terms of with-profits payouts, it has been claimed.

After studying the latest with-profits bond, full cost endowment and with-profits pension returns over a range of periods, finance site Moneyfacts.co.uk concluded that mutual societies are offering their members payouts of up to 26 per cent more than that offered by PLCs.

When it came to the with-profits endowment, the firm found that in terms of the average full cost life cover endowment mutual societies outperformed their PLC counterparts over all the terms surveyed - ten, 15, 20 and 25 years.

For with-profits bond investments, the typical difference between payouts offered by mutuals in comparison with PLCs is a little over five per cent after both five and ten years, Moneyfacts stated.

Meanwhile, the average with-profits pension was found to deliver 18 per cent more than the average PLC after 20 years and 11 per cent after 25 years.

Richard Eagling, editor of Investment, Life & Pensions Moneyfacts commented: "Since a mutual society is run in the interest of its members, unlike a PLC it does not have to pay any of its surplus profits to shareholders. Instead, most mutuals have been able to reward their policyholders through higher payouts from their with profits funds."

However, recent research has found that more than three-quarters of adults think that property is a better investment than a pension fund.
